Boston will welcome Cirque du Soleil’s imaginative and visually-spectacular production LUZIA, described as a waking dream of Mexico. Running from June 27 – July 29, 2018, the show invites spectators to a newly-designed white-and-gold Big Top at Suffolk Downs, where they can immerse themselves in an imaginary Mexico – a luxurious realm suspended between dreams and reality.
Through a succession of stunning visual moments and breathtaking acrobatic feats, LUZIA guides audiences on a surrealistic adventure through a dynamic landscape brimming with wonder, humor and artistic brilliance. The production transitions seamlessly between an old movie set, the ocean, a smoky dance hall and an arid desert, weaving together multiple facets of Mexico’s past and present through distinctive places, characters and sounds. A defining feature of LUZIA is its incorporation of rain into acrobatic and artistic sequences – an innovation marking the first time Cirque du Soleil has used this element in a touring show.

LUZIA showcases captivating and innovative acrobatic performances that elevate traditional and contemporary circus arts to unprecedented heights. Cyr Wheel performers execute the remarkable feat of rolling and spinning beneath rainfall, while an aerialist on the Trapeze soars and pirouettes through cascading water. Hoop Diving takes place on enormous treadmills, dramatically increasing the velocity and number of daring jumps. Notable performances include a male contortionist achieving extraordinary body positions, a powerful Aerial Straps artist defying gravity at the heart of a cenote (natural sinkhole), and two football (soccer) freestylers seamlessly blending street dance with exceptional ball control.
