Late last week, Chief Brian Kyes announced that Gerardo Reyes Menjivar, 36, of Lynn had been arrested in Maryland. Menjivar was wanted for allegedly stabbing a waitress at a Chelsea restaurant on Monday night, May 7.
On May 10, the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force took Menjivar into custody in Beltsville, MD.
Starting on Tuesday, May 8, Chelsea Police Detectives issued a Nationwide BOLO for Menjivar and the vehicle he was driving. Through intensive investigative work spanning 24 hours to monitor Menjivar’s whereabouts, detectives were able to locate him and facilitate his arrest.
Chief Kyes commended his department’s officers, citizens who provided crucial tips, and the various local, state and federal law enforcement partners whose coordination resulted in Menjivar’s apprehension.
“Today after a successful nationwide law enforcement effort we placed a violent individual into custody and our community is safer,” he said. “I thank the many agencies involved that worked in unison with our department to apprehend Menjivar.”
Menjivar is being held in Maryland as a fugitive pending extradition, with the Suffolk Court District Attorney’s Office handling the rendition process back to Massachusetts.
Multiple charges await Menjivar, including Assault to Murder.
