A proposal has been submitted to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) by the Residence Inn by Marriott, located on Maple Street, seeking approval to add 68 rooms to its current 128-room facility.
The proposed addition would utilize the existing surface parking area directly north of the hotel building. The goal is to establish a 200-room dual branded hotel, reflecting current industry trends in the hospitality sector.
This expansion would increase the building footprint by 28,234 sq. ft. While most of the hotel currently consists of extended stay accommodations, the project would introduce 12 non-extended stay rooms if it receives approval.
A special permit for parking has become necessary since the project requires 118 spaces but only 86 are currently available. Additionally, a Site Plan Review is mandated.
The ZBA has already held a preliminary hearing on this matter, with a decision expected during the board’s meeting this month.
