The Italian word “corteo” refers to a cortege—a joyful procession imagined as a festive parade by a clown. Blending theatrical performance with acrobatic artistry, the show transports viewers into a world of comedy, spontaneity and entertainment suspended in an enigmatic realm between heaven and earth.
The clown envisions his own funeral as a carnival celebration, attended by compassionate angels. By contrasting grandeur with intimacy, tragedy with absurdity, and flawless technique with charming imperfection, Corteo explores the clown’s resilience and gentleness—qualities that reflect the humanity within us all. Lyrical and whimsical music accompanies the production through a timeless ceremony where reality and illusion intertwine.
The stage design and layout create an unprecedented theatrical setting for a Cirque du Soleil arena show. Hand-painted central curtains and set drapes inspired by the Eiffel Tower establish an impressive visual framework that establishes the poetic tone of Corteo.
Corteo features a diverse international cast of 51 performers including acrobats, musicians, singers and actors.
