Application Deadline Approaching for Suffolk County

Chelsea, Massachusetts

Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department’s paid summer internship program

Since its launch in 2014, the Summer Enrichment Program has offered young people a chance to intern with one of the nation’s oldest law enforcement agencies and among the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s largest, gaining experience working with seasoned professionals. Through job shadowing, weekly presentations from law enforcement members, roundtable discussions, field trips related to law enforcement, and educational tours, participants will develop an understanding of law enforcement and criminal justice work.

Running for seven weeks from Monday, July 8th through Friday, August 23rd, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department Summer Enrichment Program will accept twenty participants selected from local high school students. Interns will work 21 hours per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8am and 4pm, earning $12.00 per hour. Each week includes a “meet and greet” with law enforcement community members on Wednesdays and a tour or field trip on Fridays.

Upon program completion, all participants will have earned their CPR Certification and received a Certificate of Completion from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. Beyond learning about law enforcement careers and meeting prominent officials in the field, interns will develop transferable job skills applicable to their future professional endeavors.

Applicants seeking employment must complete a written application, participate in a competitive interview, submit a CORI form, pass a drug test, complete a doctor’s physical examination, provide a valid picture ID (school ID, passport or driver’s license), and have a savings or checking account. The Department seeks mature, professional applicants with interest in law enforcement. Successful candidates will be notified by telephone and, once admitted, will receive Department-issued polo shirts and must wear khakis throughout the program.

Applications are due by Tuesday, April 30th. Interview sessions will take place from Monday, May 6th through Friday, May 24th.

Applicants may complete applications online at www.scsdma.org, fax them to (617) 704-6743, or email scanned copies to [email protected].
