A fatal pedestrian accident occurred on April 18 at the Everett Avenue onramp when an MBTA bus struck two pedestrians, resulting in the death of one.
At approximately 5:31 a.m. on April 18, an MBTA bus hit two pedestrians on Everett Avenue in Chelsea, just before the onramp to Route 1 southbound/Tobin Bridge. One victim sustained fatal injuries.
According to police, the investigation has determined that the fatal victim, Mary Ellen Pettiglio, 60, of East Boston, and a female relative accompanying her were both in the crosswalk at the moment of impact.
The other pedestrian was taken to Boston Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
State Police detectives, Transit Police, and the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office are continuing their investigation into the incident. The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Services Section are providing assistance with the ongoing investigation.
