An overdue acknowledgment is in order for Chelsea native Brian Sullivan, who was recently appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker and confirmed by the Governor’s Council as Clerk-Magistrate of the Lynn District Court.
Sullivan’s appointment to the clerk-magistrate role represents the culmination of an extensive tenure within the court system. His professional journey started in 1986 when he took on the role of Probation Officer at the Chelsea District Court. From there, he advanced to assistant clerk-magistrate positions at both the Chelsea District Court and the Salem District Court, eventually serving as Acting Clerk Magistrate of the Cambridge District Court before his recent appointment to Lynn.
Sullivan is a true Chelsea native. His late father, Vincent Sullivan, served as long-time Assistant Commandant of the Chelsea Soldiers Home, while his mother, Eleanor, raised their four children in the Mill Hill neighborhood. The Sullivan family earned a reputation as one of Chelsea’s most-respected households.
His education included St. Rose grammar school, followed by Malden Catholic and Northeastern University. Sullivan was active in the Chelsea Knights of Columbus and gained recognition for his participation on the K of C’s softball team during the thriving era of the Chelsea Modified Fast Pitch Softball League, which drew substantial crowds to Highland Park during the early 1980s.
Sullivan and his wife, the former Paula Hansbury—also a Chelsea native and notable Chelsea High graduate—have established their family home in Swampscott.
