Nancy M. Polcari, who spent the last eight years of her life at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea, died peacefully October 21 with her family around her. She was 69 and had lived with primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) for 15 years.
Her family remembers her as a fighter who met the illness with courage, and as someone who laughed easily, loved to dance and was happiest with the people she loved. They thanked the staff of the Leonard Florence Center for the care and kindness they showed her during her years there.
She was the daughter of the late Sabino and Lillian (Oliveri) Polcari. She leaves her son, Dario Polcari, and his wife, Melissa; her granddaughter, Sophie; her sister, Carol Balzotti, and brother, Philip Polcari; her sister-in-law, Debbie Polcari; her nieces and nephews Stefanie McKanas, Michael Balzotti and Matthew Polcari; and a grandniece and grandnephews. Her brother-in-law Michael Balzotti died before her.
Visitation is Tuesday, October 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark St., Everett, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The family asks that donations go to the Chelsea Jewish Charitable Foundation in place of flowers.
