Francisco Dominguez, a 33-year-old man, was fatally stabbed in Chelsea on Sunday, according to Chief Brian Kyes, who made the identification public on Monday.
Chelsea Police arrived at 115 Washington Ave. shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday in response to reports of a stabbing. Officers discovered Dominguez with a serious wound and emergency medical technicians began treatment at the scene.
He was transported to Whidden Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit (SPDU), which handles death investigations in Chelsea, Revere, Winthrop, and state property in Boston, was notified by Chelsea Police. Since Sunday morning, State Police detectives and Chelsea officers have worked together to interview witnesses and collect evidence. The investigation has also involved the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and prosecutors from Suffolk County.
