On Monday, Superintendent Mary Bourque announced at a faculty meeting that Priti Johari would serve as ad interim principal at Chelsea High School for the 2014-2015 school year. Johari, who has held the position of School Redesign Administrator at CHS for three years, will take on her new duties on July 1, succeeding Principal Joe Mullaney.
Mullaney’s departure comes after 17 years in the Chelsea district, where he worked as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and principal. His final day will be June 30. The principal has previously cited a need to dedicate more time to his family as his reason for leaving.
The transition has been structured to allow for a gradual handoff of responsibilities. “wp-caption alignright” said Bourque: “I want to thank Joe for his graciousness and generosity in allowing us time to work on a paced transition plan to support the next principal of CHS. Joe is already providing much support and training to the incoming principal.”
Johari brings extensive experience to the role. Beyond her three years as Redesign Administrator at Chelsea High School, she has worked as an education policy analyst, a Boston school administrator, and spent six years teaching high school English.
