On Tuesday, March 25, more than 400 individuals attended the public input hearing at the South Boston Convention Center regarding the proposed Revere Mohegan Sun casino project before the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC). Attendees included residents from across Boston, Winthrop, Revere, Chelsea, Everett, and the broader Greater Boston area, each given up to five minutes to voice their opinions to the MGC. The strongest arguments in favor of the casino centered on the potential for job creation and the economic benefits it could bring to the region, as well as the opportunity to revitalize Revere into a destination similar to what it was in the 1920s. Those opposing the casino expressed concerns about increased traffic in an area already experiencing heavy congestion, as well as fears that it could lead to crime and negatively impact local independent businesses.
