On Sunday afternoon, March 30, Osvaldo M. Garcia died at home following a five month illness.
Born 83 years ago in Rancho Veloz, Cuba, he came to the United States in 1968 and made Chelsea his home with his family until relocating to Revere a decade ago. He spent more than 20 years employed at American Biltrite in Chelsea before his retirement.
For 62 years he was married to Juana (Alvarez). His children include Osvaldo Garcia of Revere and Ana Hernandez and her husband, Jorge of Chelsea. He was the dear brother of Lazaro, Pedro, Margarito, Vincente, Giraldo, Juansito Garcia and the late Jose and Guillermo Garcia. His grandchildren were Dominic Garcia of Revere, April Garcia of Chelsea, Jacquelyn Hernendez of Chelsea and Alexander Hernandez of Watertown. He is also survived by great grandchildren Angelique, Alexis, Ariel, Dante, Deanalee and the late Devin as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral from the Smith Funeral Home, 125 Washington Avenue, Chelsea is scheduled for today, Thursday, April 3, at 8 a.m., with a Funeral Mass at St. Rose Church, 600 Broadway, Chelsea at 9 o’clock. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Joseph Gallant
25-Year Bartender at the French Club
Joseph H. Gallant, 83, of Revere and formerly of Chelsea, passed away on March 20 at the Chelsea Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A Chelsea native who lived here before moving to Revere, he spent many years working for Rev-Lynn Contracting in Winthrop and more than 25 years as a bartender at the French Club.
He was the devoted husband OLE-object

Roberta Selbovitz
Former Longtime Hooker Oil Bookkeeper and Beloved Chelsea-Revere-Winthrop Homecare Caseworker
On March 26, Roberta (Tarr) Selbovitz of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, passed away.
She was the beloved wife of the late Max “Cremo” Selbovitz and longtime companion of Tim Murray. At Hooker Oil, she served as a longtime bookkeeper, and for over 15 years she was a beloved caseworker at Chelsea-Revere-Winthrop Home Care. An accomplished ballet dancer, she belonged to Hadassah, the Chelsea YMHA, and the Sisterhood at Orange Street Shul.
Her son Stephen Selbovitz and his wife, Susan and Dr. Leslie Selbovitz and his partner, Marcy Solomon Slovin survive her, as does daughter-in-law Leslie Zide. She was the dear sister of Ralph Tarr, Barry Tarr, and the late Paul Tarr; sister-in-law of Zoey Tarr and Libby Tarr; and loving grandmother of Mariel, Michael, David and Matthew. She was the dear niece of the late Etty and Meyer Swerling and Ida and Bill Cohen.

Patrick Francis Doherty
GE Retiree and Chelsea Soldier’s Home Resident, Formerly of Everett
At Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett, Patrick Francis Doherty died Monday morning at age 83.
The son of the late Daniel J. and Bridget T. (Doherty) Doherty, he was born in Cambridge and raised in Everett, where he attended public schools. From Everett High School, Class of 1947, he went on to enlist in the US Navy on December 1, 1947. During the Korean War he served and received an honorable discharge on November 7, 1951. Back home, he worked as a machinist at General Electric, assembling electric components.
For over 60 years Patrick was an Everett resident before spending the last 14 years at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home, where he will be greatly missed by family and friends.
His siblings include Marguerite V. LeBlanc and her husband, Arcade of Waltham, Cecilia L. Connors and her husband, Bernard of Arizona, and the late Donald J. Doherty and John J. Doherty. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at the St. Michael Arch Angel Chapel, Chelsea Soldier’s Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea on Friday, April 4 at 11 a.m. Visitation in the Cardinal Cushing Pavillion, adjacent to the Chapel, will run from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Everett.
