Nine individuals and entities will receive the 13th Annual “All-Chelsea Awards” this coming Monday evening, Oct. 27, in recognition of their efforts to strengthen the community and improve residents’ quality of life.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the event at City Hall or view it via Chelsea Cable Television starting at 6 p.m.
Superintendent Mary Bourque is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement award, the ceremony’s most prominent honor. Throughout her career in Chelsea schools, Bourque has served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, deputy superintendent, and is currently in her third year as superintendent.
Her accomplishments include receiving the 2013 Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents (MASS) President’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education, among many other honors.
The eight additional awards recognize accomplishments and service from the past year:
- Public Official – Senator Sal DiDomenico
- Community Organization – Fr. Edgar Gutierrez-Duarte
- Business – Renee Caso-Griffin
- Resident under 21 – Jomaira Moreno
- Resident 21-64 – Lisa Santagate
- Resident 65 and older – Jack Fraser
- Contributing Stakeholder – Arthur T. Demoulas
- Project – Chelsea Empty Bowls
City Manager Jay Ash, who coordinates the All-Chelsea Awards (ACA) Committee, remarked: “A significant reason that Chelsea’s stock continues to be on the rise is the contribution of so many towards the advancement of our community. These nine are representative of all the good that many do to promote our city and address the needs of our residents. We are fortunate to have them working among and for us.”
A selection committee comprising roughly two dozen community leaders chose the nine honorees from more than 50 nominations submitted by community stakeholders through a confidential ballot vote. Community advocates will introduce each recipient, who will deliver brief remarks. State and local officials are expected to attend and address the crowd at this typically uplifting annual Chelsea event.
