The Boston Convention Center hosted more than 300 Bostonians last week for College Bound Dorchester’s annual gala, “I am My Future,” which generated more than $300,000 to support the nonprofit’s work in combating systemic, urban poverty through education and revitalizing Dorchester from the ground up. WHDH-TV’s Alberto Vasallo served as master of ceremonies for the event, which drew attendees including College Bound Dorchester CEO Mark Culliton, Mrs. Massachusetts Janelle Woods-McNish, and Kamau Parker, the organization’s Leader of Coaching Transition and College Support from Chelsea. Students and alumni of College Bound Dorchester took the opportunity to share their personal stories of success and transformation within the program. Operating from its Bowdoin-Geneva location, College Bound Dorchester serves young people between ages 14 and 27, assisting them in passing the HiSet exam, gaining admission to community colleges, completing associate degree programs, securing jobs, and achieving a sustainable living wage. The organization’s vision centers on making college graduation among Dorchester youth the standard rather than an exceptional outcome.
