On Wednesday night, the joint meeting of the City Council and School Committee was anticipated to appoint former City Councillor Richard Maronski as the next District 3 School Committee member.
The vote occurred after the Record deadlines, with officials noting that Maronski was the sole individual who submitted an application for the vacant seat, which had been left open earlier this year by Carlos Rodriguez.
A meeting to choose Maronski was planned for last week, but the lack of sufficient School Committee members present prevented the Council from achieving a quorum necessary for voting.
Wednesday’s session was expected to resolve this issue.
Officials did not anticipate much debate, as there were no other candidates or names to consider.
The process began earlier this year when Member Carlos Rodriguez vanished without explanation and failed to attend meetings for several months. Efforts to find him proved unsuccessful, though he reappeared in early May to submit a resignation letter to the Committee.
Should Maronski be approved, he would need to run again in November to retain the seat.
