This week, the certification of eight candidates for the Council at-Large race has officially set in motion a Primary Election in the at-Large category for the first time since 2003.
City Clerk Debbie Clayman has confirmed the certification of all eight candidates throughout the week and announced that the Primary Election will be held on Sept. 22.
A Special Meeting of the Council has been called by Council President Leo Robinson for Aug. 31, during which the warrant for the Primary Election will be approved to formally initiate the process.
The three at-large seats are being sought by eight candidates, with one opening created by the retirement of Councillor Brian Hatleberg. Those candidates are:
- Calvin Brown (incumbent)
- Leo Robinson (incumbent)
- Damali Vidot
- Todd Taylor
- John Cadiz
- Roy Avellaneda
- Deborah Washington
- James O’Regan Jr.
A Primary Election in District 5 was already guaranteed to occur and will take place on the same date, Sept. 22. Three candidates are running in that race:
- Joe Perlatonda (incumbent)
- Henry Wilson
- Judith Garcia
While several other District Council seats and School Committee positions face competition, those contests will not be decided until the November City Election.
