Fran Rowan’s influence extends to virtually every corner of the community.
Her legacy encompasses the Meridian House that now carries her name, the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, the Atlantic Works Artist Building on Border Street where the East Boston Artists Group operates, Zumix, and her service on the board of the North Suffolk Mental Association, which has supported countless individuals in their recovery from drug addiction. Fran Rowan was an outstanding community leader and friend to all.
Throughout her years, Fran championed causes she believed in and, despite initial opposition, ultimately persuaded skeptics to embrace her vision for helping and strengthening the community.
The laudatory comments flowing across social media, in local coffee shops and restaurants, and from homes throughout East Boston and surrounding neighborhoods reflect what we all recognize: Fran Rowan made an indelible mark on these communities. The recognition she received during her lifetime and following her passing stems from decades of dedicated volunteer service and community activism devoted to improving our neighborhood.
Fran never sought recognition and was uncomfortable receiving praise or honors without redirecting those moments to give back to the organizations and people offering their commendations.
