MAJOR ACCIDENT ON EASTERN AVE
A two-vehicle collision at 128 Eastern Ave drew Chelsea Fire and Police to the scene on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 7, following multiple emergency calls. Officers found a sedan and pickup truck involved in the crash, both traveling in the same direction along the roadway.
The pickup truck’s operator was turning into a driveway at 130 Eastern Ave when struck from behind by the sedan with considerable force. The impact ejected cargo from the truck’s bed across traffic like projectiles. Among the debris was a 250-pound tool box that landed several feet away. MGH received the pickup operator with serious non-life threatening injuries, while Chelsea Police took the sedan operator into custody.
When police arrived, they observed the sedan’s operator moving quickly away from the accident and stopped him. Following initial assessment, officers determined the man was intoxicated.
Juan Carlos Torres, 38, of 35 Jefferson Ave., faced charges including operating under the influence of liquor causing serious injury, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and reckless operation.
Approximately 30 minutes elapsed while Eastern Avenue remained closed for debris removal by crews.
MEDICAL EMERGENCY LEADS TO FOUR-CAR CRASH
Tuesday morning brought Chelsea Fire Department and Police to Eastern and Crescent Avenues following 9-1-1 reports of a multiple-vehicle accident at that intersection.
Firefighters discovered a four-car collision upon arrival. An elderly male exiting Dunkin Donuts at 356 Eastern Ave experienced a medical emergency, striking a vehicle entering the parking lot. The vehicle then crossed the roadway, hit two additional vehicles, and jumped the sidewalk before striking a crosswalk light pole.
One person required hospital transport.
While Chelsea Police investigated and redirected traffic, Chelsea Fire Department crews remained to spread absorbent material over a significant vehicle fluid spillage.
THREATENED WITH KNIFE
Officers responded to Eleanor Street on Friday, Oct. 9, at 10 p.m. to interview a female regarding an alleged knife-point assault.
The calling party told the Chelsea Police officer that a male suspect had pulled a knife on her at Bosson Park on Grove Street.
Investigation revealed an earlier confrontation near the Boys & Girls Club where the victim and her sister had intervened in an argument. The male suspect later approached them near the park.
Shortly thereafter, officers took the suspect into custody.
Jose Colon, 18, of 199 Chestnut St., was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (knife) and threatening to commit a crime.
