Last week, the Chelsea Soldier’s Home water tower—a landmark visible to thousands traveling along Rt. 1 and an iconic symbol for Chelsea—underwent painting on its upper sections. Earlier in the year, vandals had targeted the red-and-white tower, climbing trees and scaling fences to access an entrance and leave graffiti. Superintendent Cheryl Poppe found the vandalism frustrating, but she had positive news to share: the graffiti had been removed and the tower was being refreshed.
