CFD DELIVERS ANOTHER BABY
Engine 4 responded to the rear of the MGH Clinic on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31, after receiving a report involving a woman in active labor. An MGH officer was already present, attending to the female who remained seated in the front passenger seat of her vehicle. The Engine 4 crew immediately readied their OB kit. Labor progressed rapidly, and the crew assisted in the delivery and cleared the newborn’s airway. After wrapping the infant in a blanket and checking vital signs, they remained on scene with both mother and child until an ambulance arrived to transport them to MGH Boston. The healthy baby boy and his mother were successfully transferred. Acting Lieutenant Galvin Marenco, Firefighter Bryan Bermudez, and Firefighter Carlos Obando comprised the Engine 4 crew.
BOSTON MAN ARRESTED FOR HOUSE BREAKS
Chelsea Officers responded at 1:07 PM on Friday, Oct. 30, to 137 Springvale Ave. following a report of Breaking and Entering in progress. A witness provided updated information indicating the suspect was inside the residence. Officers also learned that Everett Police had documented two similar incidents near the city boundary occurring earlier that day. Given the call’s location, Everett Police joined the response. As officers entered the property from both rear and front positions, a Chelsea officer and an Everett officer spotted the suspect attempting to exit through a window. Treon Mayers, 31 of Boston, initially withdrew back into the home but was apprehended without resistance.
Officers recovered assorted jewelry from Mayers that victims from both the two Everett house breaks and the Chelsea incident positively identified. Multiple Breaking and Entering charges and Receiving Stolen Property charges were filed against Mayers. Everett Police also lodged charges based on the crimes that occurred in Everett.
FORMER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT SENTENCED FOR FEDERAL FRAUD
U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young sentenced Noe Arturo Castillo, 43, of Chelsea, to 24 months in prison and ordered restitution of $21,082 to the federal government. Castillo, a Chelsea resident, had been convicted in connection with stealing the identity of an American armed services veteran. In July 2015, Castillo pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, passport fraud, theft of public money, and misuse of a Social Security number.
Originally from Guatemala, Castillo is presently a legal permanent resident of the United States but unlawfully entered in 1994, at which time he obtained a driver’s license and Social Security card under the identity of an American citizen who served in the armed forces. He applied for a U.S. passport in the victim’s identity in 2005. Subsequently, Castillo secured employment using the victim’s identity and arranged for his paychecks to be directly deposited into a bank account established under the victim’s name. After his termination from that job, Castillo began collecting unemployment benefits in the victim’s identity, to which he was not entitled.
The Homeland Security Investigations Document and Benefit Fraud Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos A. Lopez and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Landry of Ortiz’s Criminal Division prosecuted the case.
ARRESTED ON DRUG SEARCHES
Following extensive investigations into neighborhood drug dealing, Chelsea Police Detectives executed two search warrants on Friday, Oct. 30. Both operations resulted in arrests and the confiscation of money and drugs.
At 8:30 a.m., the first search warrant was executed at 124 Washington Ave. #3, resulting in the arrest of Dana Howell, 31, of Quincy, for Illegal Distribution of Class “A” and Class “B” drugs. Howell had been placed previously in custody by Chelsea Detectives on March 25 and charged with Trafficking in Cocaine after a raid at a 86 Division St. apartment. Howell was free on bail awaiting a trail date to face those charges.
A second Search Warrant was executed at 10:45 a.m. at 40 Orange St. #3. Gretchin Agosto, 27, of that address was placed into custody and charged with possession of Class “A” drugs. The investigation was prompted by numerous complaints regarding suspicious activity at the location. Agosto’s 4-year-old daughter was present in the home during the raid, prompting Chelsea Detectives to file reports with DCF. The child was placed into temporary care of Agosto’s mother. City inspectors were also notified to address building code violations.
Both defendants were arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Monday Nov. 2.
