John Bruttaniti
Heroic Chelsea Police Officer
John P. Bruttaniti, a Chelsea Police Officer from Lynn who formerly lived in Chelsea, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 12. He was 41 years old.
Known affectionately as Coco to his family and close friends, John was born in Boston on September 23, 1974, to Karen Bruttaniti and Johnny Perkins. He completed his education at Dearborn Academy in 1993 and subsequently worked as a heavy equipment operator. His commitment to public service began when he enlisted in the US Army Reserves, where he served as a Military Police Investigator and was deployed to Iraq between 2003 and 2004.
From June 2001 through April 2005, John worked for the Massachusetts General Hospital Police. He attended the Mass Firefighting Academy, Recruit Class #168, beginning April 18, 2005, and graduated on July 15, 2005, joining the City of Chelsea Fire Department at Central Fire Station, Engine #2. On March 3, 2008, he entered the Massachusetts Transit Police Academy, graduating on August 20, 2008, to serve with the City of Chelsea Police Department.
Throughout his tenure as a Chelsea Police Officer, John held assignments as a motorcycle officer, arson investigator, and most recently became a Field Training Officer on April 20, 2016.
A defining moment in John’s career occurred in June 2015 when a parent approached him about their young child who had a penny lodged in her throat. John acted swiftly, dislodging the penny and resuscitating the child within seconds. He carried that penny with him at all times as a memento. For this heroic intervention, the Chelsea Police Department awarded him the Life Saving Award.
On May 12, 2016, Chief Kyes of the Chelsea Police Department informed John that the Statewide Advisory Committee for CPR/First Responders within the Mass Police Training Council (MPTC) would recognize him for exceeding standard law enforcement duties through medical assistance provided to someone in need. The recognition acknowledged that his CPR/First Responder training had proven instrumental in preserving a life.
John was passionate about motorcycle riding both professionally and recreationally. He belonged to the Renegade Pigs Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club in Boston and frequently volunteered as a motorcycle escort officer for the Massachusetts Wounded Vet Run, guiding hundreds of riders through numerous North Shore communities.
He is survived by his mother Karen Bruttaniti of East Boston and his father Johnny Perkins of Alabama; his devoted girlfriend Kim Segal of Chelsea; his siblings Karen Bruttaniti-Campbell of Dorchester, Nicole Correa of Florida, and Ernest (Cucho) Acevedo of Wilmington; his nieces and nephews Festus, Noah, and Gemeisah; and numerous loving uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The Ruggiero Family Memorial Home in East Boston handled funeral arrangements. John was laid to rest with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Stephanie Lanzo-Stellabotta
Spiritual person, active in many church groups
Stephanie A. Lanzo-Stellabotta of Revere, formerly of Chelsea, died suddenly at the Whidden Memorial Emergency Dept. in Everett on Monday, May 16.
Having resided in Revere for the past 10 years, Stephanie was born and raised in Chelsea as the beloved daughter of the late Ignacio and Lorraine Mandracchia. She attended Chelsea Schools and graduated from Chelsea High School. Her first marriage was to William Lanzo, and they settled in Winchester for many years where they raised one daughter and two sons. In Winchester, Stephanie became a state certified daycare operator and provided home daycare services. She later married Michael Stellabotta and moved to Winthrop, where she lived until Mr. Stellabotta’s death in 2002. Throughout her life, Stephanie maintained a strong spiritual faith and participated actively in various church groups, most recently with Blessed of the Lord Church in Woburn.
In addition to her parents and second husband, Stephanie was preceded in death by her brother Robert Mandracchia. She leaves behind her beloved and devoted children: Jessica Geloso and her husband John of Rutland, Jamie Lanzo and his wife Sarah of Reading, and William Lanzo Jr. and his wife Melinda of Stoneham. She was the dear sister of John Mandracchia of No. Andover and the cherished grandmother of Jordan, Gabrielle, John and Jack Geloso, James, Henry and Nellie Lanzo, and William III and Russell Lanzo. She is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

John Cappuccio, Jr.
Avid baseball fan
John J. Cappuccio, Jr. passed away on May 14 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness. He was 63 years old.
A native of Chelsea, he was the beloved son of the late retired Chelsea Firefighter John J. Cappuccio Sr. and Louise Cappuccio.
Johnny had been a longtime resident of Sagamore Avenue in the Prattville neighborhood of Chelsea. He worked as a private security officer and held various other positions in the local area. He was an avid baseball fan with a passion for the Red Sox and possessed extensive knowledge of statistics and player characteristics.
He was the adored nephew of the late Kay Cappuccio and is survived by his cousin Phyllis Costa and her husband Michael of Connecticut, as well as several additional cousins and friends.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend his funeral at the Frank A. Welsh & Sons Funeral Home, 718 Broadway, Chelsea, on Thursday, May 19 at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols St., Chelsea at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery will be private.
