Residents are grappling with the reality that peril exists in virtually every American city and town, threatening people of all ages—particularly young people like this victim. In broad daylight, while surrounded by friends, the Chelsea teenager suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He remains hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital fighting for survival as State and Chelsea police search for the perpetrator. The disbelief stems from witnessing cruelty inflicted by one person upon another. It reflects the senseless, brutal killings carried out by those wielding firearms, whether through deliberate planning or random violence. At this moment, the exact details surrounding this tragedy remain unclear. Yet it seems inevitable that this should never occur—that perhaps stricter gun regulations or reduced access to illegal weapons might have prevented it. Using firearms to resolve disputes between people represents barbaric conduct. Such violence poses an extreme threat, and no American is truly safe from the possibility of being shot, stabbed, or struck down by those who have abandoned their humanity. Across America, many angry, impoverished, and marginalized individuals stand ready to shoot, rob, or harm their neighbors. Regrettably, Chelsea is home to numerous such Americans. Throughout its history, America has remained a violent and dangerous nation. Nevertheless, we voice our outrage at the shooting of this 17 year-old Chelsea High School student. We hope for his recovery and for police to apprehend the sick animal responsible for shooting the young man in the head. For what reason, we ask?
