The House advanced CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) reform legislation last week, operating on the premise that employment opportunities and economic stability in Chelsea can help interrupt cycles of poverty, depression, and crime. “This legislation opens new doors for those who have served their punishment while keeping public safety in mind,” stated Representative Eugene O’Flaherty, who chairs the House’s Joint Committee on the Judiciary. The CORI law establishes rules for which details about individuals with criminal convictions may be disclosed to the public.
