Last month, the newly formed Chelsea Tree Board marked Arbor Day with a tree-planting ceremony on Clark Avenue. The occasion honored Member Denise Ortega’s birthday through the planting of a White Oak. According to Chair Julie Shannon, the Tree Board’s mission centers on demonstrating how trees contribute to community well-being and overall health. “The presence of trees and green spaces enhances our neighborhood surroundings not only visually with their inviting appeal but they also offer financial benefits as well,” she said. “More tree lined streets increase property values and business sales by proving an esthetically pleasing environment to consistently visit. Trees also reduce costs in heating and cooling by offering protection from harsh weather conditions caused by urban heat islands.”
Joining the Tree Board in the celebration was Assistant Public Works Director Fidel Maltez, who participated in recognizing the day with a commendation.
