Chelsea Clock, a Massachusetts-based manufacturer and one of America’s oldest and most distinguished makers of fine clocks, barometers, and tide instruments, has announced the appointment of Robert Ockenden, AWCI certified master clockmaker, as chief horologist at its repair and restoration facility. The company operates one of the largest branded clock repair facilities in the country.
Ockenden, who previously held the position of director of repair and restoration services, will assume expanded responsibilities in developing and leading the company’s new in-house certification and training program. This program is expected to become mandatory for all Chelsea repair technicians and master clockmakers. Though the curriculum continues to be refined, it will emphasize the knowledge and technical proficiency required for superior performance in Chelsea-branded clock repair and antique clock restoration work.

Ockenden brings national prominence and respect to the horological field. As an AWCI-certified master clockmaker, he has lectured regularly at AWCI conferences across the country and locally. His involvement with the AWCI includes service on education, strategic planning, and certification committees, and he has consulted with the editorial team of Horological Times. He holds membership in the British Horological Institute as well.
