STOLE CELL PHONES
A juvenile was arrested by Chelsea Detectives on June 4 and charged with four counts of larceny over $250 in connection with cell phone thefts from a Broadway business. The stolen phones were taken between Feb. 1 and March 24, with detectives confirming the suspect’s identity through video surveillance footage.
The 17-year-old suspect is from Everett.
ARRESTED TWICE IN ONE DAY
Xavier Gennis, 22, homeless of Chelsea, faced two separate arrests on June 5. Officers first apprehended him at 9:30 a.m. near the corner of Chestnut and Fourth Streets after identifying him as matching the description of an individual with active warrants. He was taken into custody on five Boston Police arrest warrants. Later that day at 4:45 p.m., the same individual was arrested again after being caught shoplifting at the TJ Maxx store. The second arrest involved merchandise valued at more than $100.
THREW CIGARETTE IN CRUISER
On June 6 at 1:40 p.m., officers in Bellingham Square witnessed a male throw a lit cigarette onto the front grill of an unoccupied police cruiser parked on the median between Bellingham and Fifth Streets. Smoke was observed coming from the vehicle. When officers approached the suspect, he became disorderly and was placed under arrest.
Richard Norton, 57, of 129 Arlington St., was charged with wanton damage and disorderly conduct.
TRAFFICKING HEROIN
On June 7, Massachusetts State Police and Chelsea Police worked together to serve an arrest warrant on Shurtleff Street. The suspect had three active warrants from Chelsea District Court. Upon arrest, officers discovered a significant amount of U.S. currency and drugs in his possession, resulting in additional charges.
Jeffrey Valenzuela, 19, of 167 Shurtleff St., was charged with trafficking in heroin, possession to distribute a Class A drug and one warrant.
SALVADORAN MAN DEPORTED AGAIN
Geraldo Reyes Menjivar-Menjivar, 33, a Salvadoran national, was indicted at federal court in Boston last week on one count of illegal reentry of a deported alien.
According to court documents, law enforcement in Chelsea encountered Menjivar-Menjivar on May 24, 2018, and determined he was unlawfully present in the United States. He had previously been deported on Nov. 7, 2014.
Menjivar-Menjivar faces a potential sentence of no greater than two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000, with deportation to follow upon completion of his sentence. A federal district court judge will determine the actual sentence based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
