Recently, Metro Credit Union distributed $16,000 in scholarships to high school seniors preparing for college.
The organization’s Scholarship Program is open to high school seniors who are Metro Credit Union members themselves, or whose parent or guardian holds a membership. Applicants compete for $1,000 awards to help cover tuition expenses.
A total of thirteen scholarships went to graduating seniors who had been accepted into accredited undergraduate programs. The selection process evaluated applicants based on their academic performance, leadership abilities, involvement in school and community organizations, honors received, work history, stated goals and aspirations, distinctive personal or family situations, and external recommendations.
According to Robert Cashman, president and CEO of Metro Credit Union, “We’re proud to help students advance their education and their future prospects with scholarship funding,” “We hope that students who benefit from our scholarships will achieve personal and professional success.”
The scholarship recipients are Leslie Rallis of Peabody; Brianna Bardales, Thomas Mirbel, and Lilian Guerrero of Lynn; Marie Jeanty of Burlington; Rhaida Shephard of Lawrence; Danielle More, Cara Madarese, Crystal Atchison, and Vincent Rocchio of Boston; Roberto Martinez of Framingham; and May Lam and Tina Nguyen of Chelsea.
In addition, Metro distributed $3,000 in scholarships to students from Peabody and Chelsea High School who took part in the High School Branch Banking program during the academic year. These Financial Literacy Scholarships recognized students who demonstrated outstanding performance in Finance and Business classes while interning at Metro’s high school branch locations.
