The state Housing Secretary Jay Ash does not appear to be headed toward a career in aviation.
In a statement to the Record this week, Ash – who previously served as Chelsea’s City Manager – indicated that pursuing the upcoming director position at MassPort is not currently on his agenda.
“Secretary Ash is not focused on anything other than the work of the Baker-Polito Administration right now,” his office stated.
Two weeks prior, MassPort CEO Tom Glynn made public his intention to leave his role as director next year, concluding a tenure of several years leading the airport authority.
The announcement has sparked considerable discussion about potential successors, with various observers suggesting Ash as a possibility. Given his background managing Chelsea and his familiarity with the area, some insiders view him as a strong contender for the position.
At this time, however, Ash has made clear he is not pursuing the opportunity.
