Two weeks ago, the Chelsea High Cross Country team hosted the Middle School Cross Country team for a rigorous indoor cardio session. The Middle School runners have been training intensively to get ready for their upcoming season. Their first time trial on the meet course took place yesterday, and their coach has expressed tremendous pride in their dedication and collaborative spirit.
BERKOWITZ SCHOOL UPDATES
This week, Berkowitz School held its inaugural school-wide assembly. The event focused on teaching students about the core values of respect, responsibility, empathy, and determination, with recognition given to those demonstrating these principles. The school’s mascot, “Berky,” made a special appearance to inform students about the year-long apparel fundraiser. Families received flyers detailing how to purchase customizable Berkowitz school clothing through berkowitzspiritwear.com. A 20 percent portion of all sales will support Berkowitz School student activities.
HOOKS SCHOOL UPDATES
Hooks School recently hosted its 1st Annual Back to School Social. Families and students gathered in front of the school for a picnic while Principal Lubarsky and Assistant Principal Dore shared read alouds. The Family Outreach Committee teachers organized this event and successfully brought together students from all four grades.
WRIGHT MIDDLE SCHOOL
Throughout the opening weeks of school, 8th grade teachers at the WSTA have planned several grade-wide team building activities for students.
CHELSEA HIGH SCHOOL
On Wednesday, Sept. 12, both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams achieved victories in their meets against Whittier Tech and Presentation of Mary. The defending dual and league meet champion girls were led by captains Yarid Deras and Jocelyn Post, finishing first and third respectively. Additional finishers included Saila Carriento in sixth, Karina Avalos in tenth, Yarelis Torres in eleventh, and twin sister Nicole in thirteenth. The girls will compete next week in Malden against Mystic Valley.
Captain Justin Turner led the boys’ team to victory as the overall winner. Co-captain Julio Valladares finished second overall, followed by Raphael Castillo in fourth, Oscar Amaya in fifth, and Jazmany Reyes and Limilson Tavares in eighth and ninth. Whittier’s boys squad, which had been the two-time defending league champions with 23 consecutive dual meet wins, suffered their first loss to Chelsea on Wednesday. The boys team will compete next Wednesday against Mystic Valley.
