Chelsea High football prepares
for season-ending matchup at Brighton
Next Wednesday evening on Thanksgiving Eve, the Chelsea High football team will travel to Brighton in hopes of finishing the season strong. The Red Devils are scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m.
In their most recent outing, Chelsea fell to O’Bryant High by a score of 32-2. Red Devil Richard Flores provided Chelsea’s only points when he recovered a Brighton fumble during a two-point conversion attempt and returned it 98 yards for a score.
Despite the challenges this season has presented for first-year head coach Rasi Chau and his players, the coach maintains an optimistic outlook regarding their efforts and dedication.
Chau stated, “fblikebutton_button” “We are in our growing pain season. My guys all have worked hard, regardless of our record. There’s no quitting with our guys. I am proud of each and every single one of them, from my seniors all the way to my freshmen. We are looking forward to playing Brighton on Thanksgiving Eve. Hopefully we can grab a win, because that turkey will taste much better if we can do so.”
Turner and Deras lead
CHS cross country runners at D-2 championship
At Saturday’s Eastern Mass. Division 2 Meet at the Wrentham Training Center, Justin Turner and Yarid Deras finished as the top runners for Chelsea High’s boys and girls cross country squads.
Turner placed 51st with a time of 17:22 over the 5K (3.1 miles) course. His teammates Julio Validates (18:20), Jazmany Reyes (18:39), Limilson Tavares (19:14), and Oscar Amaya (19:15) followed behind him.
For the girls, Deras crossed the finish line in 103rd place with a time of 22:04. Jocelyn Poste ran 24:49 and Saira Carrento finished in 25:00.

Bruins embark on four-game road stretch
The Bruins started their four-game road trip last night (Wednesday) in Colorado as the Record went to press. The matchup featured two of the NHL’s premier forward lines: Boston’s Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and David Pastrnak against Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan McKinnon and Mikko Rantanen. Coach Bruce Cassidy selected Jaroslav Halak to start against the Avalanche on Wednesday, despite the return of goaltender Tuukka Rask from his personal leave. At Tuesday’s practice, Rask indicated the matter had been resolved and he was moving forward. The expectation is for Rask to regain his elite form as the team’s number one goaltender, though he will serve as backup to Halak for now.
The Bruins traveled to Dallas on Thursday and will face the Stars tomorrow (Friday 8 p.m.). Dallas has been performing well recently with a 5-3-2 record over their last ten games, placing them fourth in the Central Division. Former Bruin Tyler Seguin leads the Stars with 17 points, while ex-Bruins backup goaltender Anton Khudobin has posted a 3-2-0-1 record across six starts with a 2.32 goals-against-average and .926 save percentage. Boston will visit the Arizona Coyotes (Saturday 8 p.m.) before concluding their road trip against Atlantic Division rival Detroit (Wednesday 7 p.m.).
The NHL honored Bruins forward David Pastrnak as its first star of the week for the period ending November 11. Boston compiled a 3-1-0 record last week, with Pastrnak pacing the team in scoring with five goals and two assists for seven points across four games. Four of Pastrnak’s goals came on the power play, bringing his season total to seven and tying him with Winnipeg’s Patrick Laine for the league lead. The 22-year-old Havirov native recorded his second hat trick of the season and third of his regular season career. Pastrnak’s 16 goals currently lead the NHL.
Former Bruin Willie O’Ree was honored with induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame this week in the Builder category. O’Ree joined the NHL/USA Hockey Diversity Task Force in 1998 and has impacted over 120,000 individuals through his efforts to introduce hockey to people from diverse backgrounds.

Presenters have been announced for The Sports Museum’s Tradition honorees: Former Boston Bruins coach Don Cherry, a Canadian hockey icon, will be presented by Bs legend Terry O’Reilly; Paul Pierce of the Boston Celtics will be presented by former teammate Kendrick Perkins; Two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist Julie Foudy will be presented by former teammate Kristine Lilly; Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Jim Lonborg will receive his award from legendary Major League Baseball pitcher Jim Kaat; Super Bowl XXXIX MVP and former New England Patriot wide receiver Deion Branch will be presented by former teammate Troy Brown; and seven-time NASCAR Championship winner Richard Petty will be presented by NASCAR journalist Dick Berggren. Jackie MacMullan and Tom Caron will host the event. Ticketed guests will enjoy a unique opportunity to interact with some of New England’s most celebrated athletes and industry figures. Rick Middleton’s #16 to be retired to the Garden rafters – NOVEMBER 29
Prior to the Bruins’ game against the New York Islanders on Thursday, November 29, the team will retire Rick Middleton’s number and raise the #16 banner to the rafters. The right wing played 12 seasons with the Bruins, accumulating 402 goals and 496 assists for 898 points. He achieved five consecutive seasons with at least 40 goals between 1979 and the 1983-84 season. Middleton’s #16 will be the 11th number retired by the B’s, joining Lionel Hitchman, Dit Clapper, Eddie Shore, Milt Schmidt, Bobby Orr, Johnny Bucyk, Phil Esposito, Ray Bourque, Terry O’Reilly and Cam Neely.
