CHS TRACK TEAMS DROP FIRST CONTESTS

Last week, both the Chelsea High boys and girls indoor track teams suffered losses in their season openers against Greater Lawrence.

The girls’ meet was decided in its final event, the 4 x 400 relay. Going into that race, Chelsea led 41-40, but Greater Lawrence claimed victory in the relay to secure a 45-41 meet win.

Notable performances from the girls included:

1st and third in the high hurdles: Stephanie Simon, Sandra Tun

1st and third in the 50 yard dash: Stephanie Simon, Sandra Tun

1st in the 300: Ana Chang

1st in the 600: Yarelis Torres Diaz

1st in the High Jump: Stephanie Simon

1st in the mile: Yarid Deras

The boys fell short with a final score of 54-31. Chelsea’s top finishes were:

1st in Shot Put: Rigo Flores

1st in the 600: Jazmany Reyes

1st, 2nd, 3rd in mile: Jazmany Reyes, Oscar Amaya, Ian Padilla

1st, 2nd in 1000: Justin Turner, Limilson Tavares

SIMON WINS LONG JUMP AT STATE COACHES

Chelsea High’s Stephanie Simon took first place in the long jump at this past weekend’s State Coaches Meet, which showcases top Division 1 athletes. Her winning leap of 18′-0.75″ earned her qualification for the nationals.

Teammate Ana Chang also performed well, placing 20th in the 300 dash among 58 competitors.

On the boys’ side, Red Devil Justin Turner lowered his two-mile school record, improving from 10:18 to 10:13.36.
