At last Saturday’s All-State Meet held at the Reggie Lewis Center, Chelsea High’s Stephanie Simon earned second place in the long jump competition.
Heading into her final attempt, Simon sat in third position. However, her concluding jump measured 18′-2.25″, which was five inches better than her top jump to that point, propelled her into the second spot, behind only Jada Johnson of Sharon, who had the best jump of the day at 18′-6.75″.
The previous week’s Division 2 meet saw Simon finish first with a jump of 17′-9″, qualifying her for the all-state competition. Following her second-place finish, Simon has earned entry to this Saturday’s All-New England Meet.
Simon also participated in the 55 meter dash on Saturday, placing 16th overall with a time of 7.48 seconds. She had previously secured third place in the D-2 Meet the week before, which advanced her to the all-states.
