Chelsea High’s volleyball team rebounded from a difficult loss to Fellowship of Christian Academy with a dominant 3-0 performance against Mystic Valley on Tuesday. Under Coach Lisa Ceccherini, the Lady Red Devils improved to 5-11 overall while maintaining a 5-1 record in the Small Division of the Commonwealth Athletic Conference. A division title would secure the team a spot in the state tournament playoffs. “The defeat to Fellowship was very difficult to take,” said Ceccherini. “We had been 4-0 in the first half of the season against our division rivals and were looking t win the rematches to leave no doubt about finishing first and making the tourney. But the girls rebounded nicely against Mystic Valley.” The coach highlighted junior Erika Guzman’s exceptional serving performance in the Mystic Valley matchup. “Erika was outstanding,” said Ceccherini, pointing out that Guzman contributed seven service points during the opening game. “She’s our secret weapon because she is so good with her serves. She’s always very consistent and the pressure never seems to bother her.” Ceccherini also recognized the contributions of junior Shuley Sejour, who recorded five blocks, senior captain Erin Kelley, and junior Jackie Lopez. “They really stepped up against Mystic,” said Ceccherini. “They played with confidence at the net.” The Lady Red Devils face a crucial divisional test today (Thursday) against No. Shore Tech at home. Following that, they will travel to Greater Lowell tomorrow, compete at Whittier on Tuesday, and conclude their season next Thursday in a division rivalry game against Northeast Vocational.
