Chelsea Police Detectives are looking into a shooting incident that took place Monday morning in the hallway at 61 Shurtleff Street. Officers arrived at the location following a report of a shooting victim. At the scene, they located Rigoberto Herrara, 39, a resident of that same address, who remained conscious and alert despite sustaining two gunshot wounds to his arm inflicted by a single assailant. According to Herrara’s account, he was being followed as he made his way home by a young light skinned Hispanic male dressed in a red and blue hooded sweatshirt, who followed him into the doorway of his residence in what appeared to be a robbery attempt. The assailant fired three shots, with two of them striking Herrara during the incident. After the shooting, the gunman reportedly ran away on foot in the direction of Essex Street. Herrara was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing with Chelsea Detectives.
