The death of Irene Grzybinski, former president of Chelsea Provident Cooperative Bank, has been reported. She passed away Wednesday morning. In Chelsea’s modern banking history, Ms. Grzybinski holds the distinction of being the first female president of a major bank in the city. For 50 years, she maintained a respected reputation in local banking circles as a capable and unassuming leader. Services for Ms. Grzybinski will take place Saturday at 9:15 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at St. Stan’s, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Her tenure at the bank was marked by a strong operational presence. She served as a key decision-maker instrumental in the bank’s expansion throughout the 1980’s and into the 1990’s. The Welch Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements. A funeral mass has been scheduled for Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from St. Stanislaus Church on Chestnut Street, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
