City Suspends Street Sweeping Up to Christmas

Chelsea, Massachusetts

Street sweeping operations in the city have been put on hold, along with the related enforcement activities. The program, which had been extended into December through prior decisions, was set to add three additional weeks of sweeping that month—a departure from the typical pattern of no December sweeping. Early-week snowfall made the suspension necessary, as snow conditions render sweeping impractical. City officials will determine the status of the final week of the year on Monday. Regardless, the sweeping program’s official conclusion is December 31. Should snow fall over the weekend, sweeping may cease entirely before that date. According to city officials, the sweeping program is scheduled to resume on March 1, subject to weather conditions. During January and February, limited sweeping may occur on streets where parking restrictions apply.
