Chelsea High’s boys basketball team moved to 3-0 in Commonwealth Athletic Conference play (3-1 overall) following a 62-47 win against Whittier Tech last Wednesday at the CHS gym. The Red Devils maintained control throughout the contest, though they did not achieve a runaway victory. Coach Jay Seigal’s team built a nine-point advantage by halftime and kept their lead at 10 or more points throughout the entire second half. “We turned in a solid effort at both ends of the floor,” said Seigal. “Whittier is good team, but we did what we had to do.” Standout performer Sammy Mojica contributed across the board with 17 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three blocked shots. Alongside him in the backcourt, CHS Captain Felix Crespo delivered what Seigal called a “solid effort.” This week, the Red Devils will host a holiday tournament beginning Wednesday evening at 7:00 against Masconomet Regional. Thursday features both the consolation game and the championship, with Chelsea set to face either Beverly or Triton, the other two tournament participants. Following the tournament, the Red Devil squad will travel to Peabody, a former GBL rival, on Monday for their first game of the New Year.
