William “Bill” Cammarano Sr., a Navy veteran who managed communications for AT&T for more than 40 years, ran a stamp and coin shop in Peabody, sang at every family party, and raised his children in Chelsea before settling in Revere, died on September 6, 2026 at Mass General Brigham Salem Hospital after a long illness. He was 87.
He was born and raised in East Boston, the son of Pasquale and Jennie (Recupero) Cammarano, and graduated from East Boston High School in 1956. He joined the Navy that year and served until 1960. Stationed in Naples, Italy, he met Angela Amato; they married on March 13, 1960 and were together 66 years. They started out in East Boston and moved to Chelsea to raise their daughter and son. Alongside the AT&T career he owned and ran ABBM Stamps, Coins and Sports Collectibles in Peabody, and spent hours cataloguing his own collections. He had a real voice and used it, at home, at parties and on stage in community shows.
Besides his wife, Angela R. (Amato) Cammarano, he leaves his daughter, Maria Mercurio and her husband Ronnie; his son, William Cammarano Jr. and his wife Samantha; his grandchildren, Ronnie Mercurio III, Joshua Mercurio, Justin Mercurio, Samira Cammarano and Natalia Cammarano; his great-grandchildren; and his half-sister, Vanessa Kinney. His brother Frank Cammarano died before him.
A graveside service is Monday, September 14 at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm Street, Everett. The procession forms at the Vertuccio Smith and Vazza Beechwood Home for Funerals, 262 Beach Street, Revere, at 12:30 p.m. and leaves at 12:45. The family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
