The photograph above displays the architectural design that Marriott Corporation plans to construct in Chelsea at the intersection of Maple and Beech Streets. Before moving forward, the company must obtain final approvals from the Zoning Board. The city’s Planning Board has already given its approval to the initial plans submitted by Marriott Corporation officials for a Residence Inn to be situated in proximity to the Wyndham Hotel. According to the plans, this will be a complete Residence Inn operation, featuring the same type of structure and business model shown in the accompanying photograph. “We have worked for this for almost 10 years and so we are all very pleased,” said City Manager Jay Ash. Ash noted that Marriott’s decision to come to Chelsea was somewhat ironic, explaining that nearly a decade ago when he first approached them about the city, they had firmly declined. The project is expected to require approximately $15 million for construction and outfitting of the new property, according to Marriott estimates. The next step involves Marriott presenting the proposal to the Zoning Board, where they will seek final approval of the zoning modifications required to obtain a building permit.
