Laurie L. Pelosi, a lifelong Chelsea resident who spent her working years in healthcare offices and was studying to become a chaplain when she became ill, died at her home in Chelsea on September 23, with her family around her. She was 68. The cause was pancreatic cancer. Services and burial have not yet been announced.
She was born in Chelsea on August 18, 1958, to Barbara Houghton and the late Edward Houghton, and lived in the city all her life. She held administrative and secretarial jobs in the healthcare field. More recently she earned two master’s degrees from Liberty University, in Biblical studies and in divinity with a concentration in chaplaincy. Her family remembered her for thrift shopping, crocheting, gardening and cooking, and above all for her children and grandchildren.
Her survivors include her two children, Michael Pelosi and Maria Pelosi, and their spouses, Jessica Pelosi and John Havican; and two grandchildren, Leonardo Pelosi and Ryder Havican. She also leaves her siblings Susan, Lisa, Karl, Keith and Robert Houghton and Karen Lodoen. Her sibling Stephen Fiore died before her.
Services and interment will be announced by Boston Cremation of Malden. In place of flowers, the family asks for donations in her name to a pancreatic cancer charity.
