Richard E. “Rick” Dyer Jr. of Lynn, a master plumber who ran his own business, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Saturday, October 10. He was 65. His funeral is Saturday morning at the Carafa Family Funeral Home and Our Lady of Grace Church in Chelsea.
The son of the late Richard E. Dyer Sr. and Barbara (Trickett) Dyer, he grew up in Malden and graduated from Malden High School in 1978. He earned his master plumber’s license, and his family wrote that he still talked about some of his jobs well into retirement. He met his wife, Therese, on one of those jobs in the late 1980s, and they were together 40 years. She died before him.
He fished and boated from boyhood, followed sports, worked with wood and metal, and could be found at the ball field, the yacht club or wherever car people gathered. His children wrote that he taught them to keep friendships for life and to look after family and the people around them.
He leaves his daughter Sarah Dyer and her wife, Katie, of Lynn; his son Jake Dyer and his fiancée, Lindsey Ballard, of Lynn; his grandson, Theodore Dyer; and his sisters Christine Kelly of Pennsylvania, Laura Sienkiewicz Petruzzi of Florida, Barbara Dyer of Everett and Marguerite Mastrocola and her husband, Filippo, of Everett, along with many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are Friday, October 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Carafa Family Funeral Home, 389 Washington Avenue, Chelsea. The funeral begins at the funeral home Saturday, October 17, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, 59 Nichols Street, Chelsea.
