Beverly Anderson Nicolas, who finished Revere High School with the Class of 1944 and later spent more than 65 years in the Winthrop Highlands, died on Thursday, October 29, with her family with her. She was 100 and had been living in Braintree.
She was born in Lowell in July 1926, a daughter of Hilding R. Anderson and Doris V. (Aitken) Anderson. After high school in Revere she married Edward S. Nicolas of Winthrop in 1948, and the couple settled in the Highlands, where she stayed for most of her life. Walks along Shore Drive and the stretch of shoreline locals call Rocky Beach were part of her routine.
In the 1980s she went to work in Boston as a library assistant at Harbridge House, a consulting firm, and she made a habit of walking through the Public Garden. She liked to travel, with trips to Las Vegas with her mother and her sister Margie to see her son and his wife, bus outings to New York with her daughter to see the Rockettes, and a family cruise to Alaska that she paid for.
Her husband, Edward “Nick” Nicolas, and her sister Shirley E. Murray of Revere died before her. She leaves her sister Marjorie J. Anderson of Braintree; her son, Daniel “Nick” Nicolas, and his wife, Cheryl, of Mesquite, Nevada; her daughter, Kathleen “Nicki” Shaban, and her husband, Brian, of Braintree; and two grandchildren, Tyler J. Shaban and his wife, Ariana, of Whitinsville, and Kristen B. Shaban of Medford.
At her request there will be no funeral service. The family suggests gifts to the Friends of Thayer Public Library, 798 Washington St., Braintree, MA 02184, or the Friends of the Winthrop Council on Aging, 35 Harvard St., Winthrop, MA 02152. Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree, is handling arrangements.
