Ann Bishop, married to Chief Procurement Officer Robert Bishop, is reportedly preparing to seek the District 1 seat. Adding another layer to this political narrative, Robert Bishop—a former alderman and city clerk—intends to pursue an at-large council seat. Such a move would establish the Bishops as one of the city’s most politically active families. An at-large campaign would likely generate 300 or 400 votes from Prattville alone, but winning citywide requires approximately 1100 votes, demanding that Bishop demonstrate support across all neighborhoods. Ann’s path to victory appears more straightforward, as she would essentially follow the electoral blueprint her daughter has already established in the district race. To the best of my knowledge, no husband-and-wife team has previously served together on the city council, nor did such a partnership exist on the earlier Aldermanic Board. Questions remain regarding whether Robert Bishop would be required to resign from his chief procurement officer role if elected to the council. While city hall employees are not prohibited from running for office, such a situation could raise ethical concerns. Efforts to contact Bishop for comment on Wednesday proved unsuccessful.
