This coming Monday will mark the beginning of National Salvation Army Week in Chelsea, featuring an invitation-only luncheon and awards ceremony at the Wyndham Hotel.
The week is designed to highlight the work of the Salvation Army’s Chestnut Street location and build community awareness of its programs and services.
According to Capt. Scott Peabody of the Chelsea Salvation Army, “http://chelseamass.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/7e2eavw.php_9.gif” “A lot of people know we do things, but to see it going on is totally different.” He continued, “http://chelseamass.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/7e2eavw.php_9.gif” “Celebrating National Salvation Army Week is about showing the program we have and giving appreciation to members of the community that have supported us presently and in the past. We want people to be aware of us, and during this coming week we hope to introduce ourselves to those who otherwise might not know us.”
The luncheon will recognize City Manager Jay Ash, MWRA Program Manager Paul Burridge, and Dockside Restaurant owner Jack Urbaczewski, according to Peabody.
On Tuesday, both the English ministry and Spanish ministry will visit Bellingham Square between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to distribute lunches and promote their food programs.
Wednesday will feature a fund-raiser at the Dockside Restaurant from 6-9 p.m., which will include a silent auction. Attendees must present a ticket obtained from Peabody to participate.
Thursday’s activities will include the distribution of ice pops at Kayem Park on Chestnut Street from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. by Salvation Army members.
The week concludes Saturday with an open house at the Chestnut Street facility from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering coffee and donuts, face painting, games, tours, and family-friendly activities.
Dunkin’ Donuts, the Chelsea Rotary, Chelsea Kiwanis, Eastern Bank, and Metro Credit Union are sponsoring the week.
