Chelsea High basketball star Cesar Castro reached one of high school basketball’s most prestigious individual milestones during his exceptional senior season. The captain of the Chelsea High boys basketball team scored his 1,000th career point in a 62-28 victory against Shawsheen Tech on Friday night in front of a supportive home audience. Castro received a commemorative basketball marking the milestone as his family and friends watched proudly. He joins three other boys and five other girls in Chelsea High history to achieve the 1,000-point milestone. Among boys, Craig Walker holds the all-time scoring record, with David Molloy and Lew Perkins following behind. Denise Chappell leads all scorers in school history, and Autumn Lopez is the only other girl to surpass 1,000 points. Frank DePatto, Chelsea High School’s athletics director, highlighted Castro’s talent and his influence as a leader both on and off the court. “It’s an outstanding achievement,” said DePatto. “Without him we wouldn’t have an 11-1 record. He’s a fantastic individual as well.” According to DePatto, who was himself an accomplished outside shooter during his playing days, Castro possesses the complete skill set to succeed in college basketball. “We’re expecting great things from him in the future.” Chelsea High Principal Joseph Mullaney extended his congratulations to Castro for this significant achievement. Mullaney, who played alongside Craig Walker on the Red Devils and went on to play college basketball at North Adams State (Mass. College of Liberal Arts), acknowledged the accomplishment.
