Chelsea High’s girls cross country team remains undefeated this season with a 4-0 record, positioning the Lady Red Devils as contenders for a CAC championship. Their most impressive victory came against Presentation of Mary, the defending league champions, in a close 26-31 finish. “This was one of the biggest wins in history at Chelsea for the girls cross country program,” said CHS head coach Don Fay. In another dominant performance, the Lady Red Devils topped Greater Lowell 22-38. Senior captain Suzanne Mikalixen led the way with a winning time of 23:02. Fellow senior captain Jesenia Contreras clocked in at 25:27, while sophomore Patricia Guardado crossed next at 25:59. Sophomore Arandeni Ramos finished just behind Guardado, with Paola Claros securing the meet victory for Chelsea in 26:38. Tatyana Almedia and Wendy Chung rounded out the scoring, the latter posting 27:31.
Last Thursday’s matchup against Essex Agricultural saw the Lady Red Devils post a shutout victory, 15-50. Mikalixen continued her undefeated streak, finishing in 23:06—just three seconds off her personal record. Contreras placed second for Chelsea, while Guardado took third at 26:21. Senior Wendy Chung followed closely behind at 26:25, and Almedia rounded out the top five with a time of 26:47. Guardado, Chung, and Almedia all achieved personal records in this meet.
With their 4-0 record intact, the girls face Mystic Valley next Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Admirals Hill. A win in this significant matchup would give them their first opportunity to claim a league title.
