On a beautiful fall day with sunny skies, Governor Deval Patrick made a campaign appearance Saturday afternoon at the Jordan Boys and Girls Club on Willow Street. The outdoor event attracted a strong turnout of dedicated supporters and Chelsea organizers eager to back the governor’s campaign. Patrick moved through the crowd, thanking attendees and delivering remarks centered on the race’s focus on the future and the importance of a Democratic victory. “We must continue the great work we have started and that people like you have carried on with so much energy and interest,” the governor told the crowd.
Patrick’s commitment to Chelsea has been remarkable, with nearly a dozen visits to the city over the past three months—more frequent stops than any previous governor in the city’s history. At the club, the governor met with Roy Avellaneda, his chief Chelsea organizer, and posed for photos with other key organizers including Gladys Vega, who heads the Chelsea Collaborative. Vega mobilized at least two dozen organizers for the campaign stop and later joined Patrick at a Chelsea residence where he worked to register a new voter. During the club visit itself, the governor assisted another new voter with registration paperwork—a meaningful moment witnessed by those present.
Earlier in the day, Patrick had campaigned on Shirley Avenue in Revere, where Speaker Robert DeLeo and approximately 100 supporters greeted him. Following his time at the Boys and Girls Club, the governor departed with his motorcade to continue campaigning in Arlington.
