A 50-year-old Chelsea woman was discovered deceased in a Maverick Street driveway on Tuesday morning. State Police and Chelsea police detectives involved in the investigation confirmed that Theresa Wilkes, who resided at 123 Maverick Street, was found in her driveway shortly after 6:00 a.m. The call came from a local resident who had spotted the body. Upon arrival, officers found Wilkes lying on the ground. She was not breathing and had no pulse. Police speculated that Wilkes may have struck her head on the driveway tarmac, according to a source close to the investigation. Further examination revealed that the deceased had filed for a one-day restraining order against her husband in October, alleging that he had kicked her in the ribs during a fit of rage in which he also punched the walls inside their home. Subsequently, Frederick Wilkes, 54, the deceased’s husband, was arrested. He was charged with domestic assault and battery and appeared in Chelsea District Court on Wednesday. The Suffolk County coroner will conduct an autopsy on Mrs. Wilkes to establish the true cause of her death. At that time, police officials indicated that the charges against Mr. Wilkes could be elevated if it is determined that Mrs. Wilkes died as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation with her husband. Currently, the cause of death remains undetermined.
