Hotel developer upping ante following FBI announcement

Chelsea, Massachusetts

In the wake of last week’s FBI announcement regarding Chelsea, developers working with the city on a project situated next to the FBI location reached out to City Manager Jay Ash. Officials representing DMG, which intends to construct a Cambria Suites Hotel on the Emerald Block site, made contact with city leadership. “We are thinking about going larger than 100 rooms we have been estimating,” said a company representative. “With the FBI planning such a grand structure with all those people, it might make good sense to go larger,” the official added. The permitting process for DMG’s development has already received approval. According to city officials, the undertaking carries an estimated price tag of approximately $15 million. Ground breaking is anticipated for late spring. According to Ash, DMG has projected a construction timeline of 12-14 months for completion of the hotel. The new hotel would be located in the same area as Chelsea’s primary hotel property, the Wyndham.
