Chelsea High’s baseball squad improved their season record to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the Small Division of the Commonwealth Athletic Conference after capturing two games last week. Coach Alan Beausoleil’s Red Devils relied on strong pitching and offensive production to defeat Pope John High on Friday and Minuteman Regional on Monday.
Against PJHS, Jose Pineda delivered a complete seven-inning performance, allowing nine hits while striking out 11 batters. The opening inning proved difficult as Pineda walked the first two hitters and gave up a three-run home run, but he regained his composure thereafter. Chelsea’s offense responded by erasing the early deficit, turning a 4-4 contest into a decisive victory with a fifth-inning surge. Daniel Velastegui contributed two hits, three runs scored, and two RBI. Luis Encarnacion added three hits—including two doubles—along with three runs and two RBI. Adonys Urbaez provided two doubles and four RBI in the Red Devils’ 9-4 win.
Odanys Urbaez earned the victory against Minuteman by pitching a complete game, surrendering 10 hits but allowing all the damage in a single sixth inning while Chelsea maintained an 8-0 lead. He struck out seven opponents, finishing strong with the final two outs. Luis Diaz led off for the Red Devils with two hits and three runs scored. Adonys Urbaez contributed three runs and two stolen bases to support his twin brother’s effort.
Prior to these contests, Chelsea secured a narrow 4-3 win over Northeast Regional Vocational High School. Eli Ortiz pitched four innings before Pineda closed out the final three frames to secure the victory.
The Red Devils face a demanding schedule ahead. They travel to Greater Lowell today (Thursday), then host Pope John tomorrow, North Shore on Monday, Greater Lawrence on Wednesday, and Lynn Tech next Friday.
